Kaltura is a video platform for recording, editing, and sharing video and audio. It can be used by all UvA employees and students. Due to its integration with Canvas, as a teacher, you can easily offer videos or audio within courses. It is also possible to share videos via video.uva.nl.

What are the possibilities offered by Kaltura?

  • Create screen, webcam, or audio recordings with Kaltura Capture
  • Create an interactive video, video quiz, or podcast
  • Import a YouTube video
  • Embed videos in Canvas pages, discussions, or assignment descriptions
  • Share video and audio outside of Canvas via video.uva.nl

Getting started with Kaltura

Kaltura can be accessed via two entry points:

  • From Canvas: log in to Canvas and go to 'My Media' (on the left in the red menu bar).
  • Via video.uva.nl: log in to video.uva.nl (top right) to see all menu items, such as 'My Media'.

Both have almost the same functionalities, but there is an important difference:

  • In Canvas, it is possible to place videos within a course (this cannot be done via the portal).
  • Via video.uva.nl, it is possible to share individual videos or create a video channel and share it with a group (in Canvas, videos can only be published within courses).
