A channel is a user generated content collection. the collection can consist of photo, audio and/or video files. Channel managers and site administrators may give users permission to perform specific actions in a channel. You can access your channels from the My Channels selection in the User menu. Channel types can vary from open to private, restricted, shared repository or public to define the privacy levels by which users (anonymous/authenticated/channel members) may have access to view the content or to contribute content to the channel.

Below you find explanation of the different options you can choose from.
All logged in users can view and contribute content (contribution is not allowed for viewer-role users).
All logged in users can view content and only channel members can contribute content.
Only channel members can view and contribute content.
Only channel members can view and contribute content; Content may be published to other channels, according to publishing entitlements.
Anyone can view content (including anonymous not logged-in users). Only channel members can contribute content according to their publishing entitlements.
(Media will not appear in channel until approved by channel manager)

You can make a choice out of 4 tabs with the following options:
View and or / change the details of the channel
View and / or change the appearance of the channel (option: carrousel) and choose the player. (Site default player/ player with no transcript / player with no fast forward/ Podcast.)
View and / or create channel playlists
View, add, delete channel users / groups You can choose between different roles: Member, Contributor, Moderator, Manager
A Member can access the channel, the member can view content in that channel. The member cannot add new content to that channel.
A Contributor can access the channel. The Contributor can view content in the channel. The contributor can add new content to the channel.
Moderator: A Moderator can access the channel, the Moderator can view content in that channel, the Moderator can add new content. The Moderator can access the moderation queue if enabled on that channel and approve/reject contributed content that has been assigned to the moderation queue of the channel.
A Manager can access a channel they are associated with, the Manager can view content in that channel, the Manager can add new content to that channel. The Manager can access the moderation queue if enabled on the channel and approve/reject contributed content that has been assigned to the moderation queue. The Manager can access/edit the settings for the channel including: change metadata, change moderation and commenting, edit/add/delete users associated with the category/channel and set their entitlement role, change appearance and delete the channel. The Manager can view/print/save the channel media analytics. The Manager can organize the content in a channel as playlists.
