Kaltura is a modern video platform, which is used by lecturers, support staff and students to upload or create video or audio. Kaltura is highly compatible with Canvas, making it easy for lecturers to integrate video into their courses. Among other useful features, the platform also allows users to annotate videos or compile a video quiz. The videos can be played on all types of devices.
What do you use Kaltura for?
Kaltura is a video platform designed for creating and sharing videos. You can make the knowledge clips interactive by adding questions, and easily edit them with the Editor (see Using Kaltura in Canvas).
For whom is Kaltura intended?
Kaltura is intended for all UvA staff and students.
Want to get started with Kaltura?
There are two ways to access Kaltura:
In Canvas via My Media in the red left-hand bar.
Through the Kaltura Mediaspace portal at video.uva.nl.
The two Kaltura environments have similar functionalities, and are linked to one another. The only difference is that on Canvas you can publish videos in a course (Media Gallery), and in the portal you cannot. In the portal you can create a link and share this with others (this is not possible in Canvas).
In addition, in the portal you can create a Channel, a composite group with whom you share videos. You cannot do this in Canvas, where you can only publish per course.
