In addition to using the regular audiovisual equipment in lecture rooms, you can also borrow individual items from the University of Amsterdam such as a laptop, camera or microphone. Below you will find an overview of available equipment, how to borrow these and their manuals.

Equipment available in lecture rooms 

What audiovisual equipment is available varies per lecture room. You can find precisely which A/V equipment is available by default per lecture room at rooster.uva.nl.

Borrowing audiovisual equipment 

You can get additional audiovisual equipment for teaching at the following delivery points:

  • Roeters Eiland Campus: Lobby building A, red counter Facility Services.
  • City center: AV equipment can be requested via Facility Services Service Desk (phone: 020 525 14 03 or e-mail: servicedesk-fs@uva.nl).
  • Science Park: Microphones and cameras at the AV desk next to library and other resources via the library itself.

At these locations you can get webcams (such as meeting owls and brio cameras) and lapel microphones. This equipment is in addition to the standard audiovisual furnishing of the lecture rooms.

  • Brio webcam

    Features of a Brio webcam 

    • Camera with a wide camera angle. 
    • Suitable for capturing a whiteboard.
    • Additionally, leaves the lecturer free to move without falling off camera. 
    • Available by default in all lecture rooms.

    Tips 

    • Make sure the video settings in Zoom are HD for wide angle. 
    • Always repeat questions from the floor for online students. 
    • The AV set works both on the desktop in the room and your own laptop. Using the room's desktop is preferred if available.

  • OWL webcam

    Features of an OWL webcam 

    • Camera with 360⁰ viewing angle. 
    • Allows showing multiple speakers on-screen at the same time (split screen). 
    • Very well suited for tutorials 

    Good to know 

    • Please note that multiple people will be shown on screen (agree on privacy) 
    • The AV set works both on the desktop in the room and your own laptop. Using the room's desktop is preferred if possible.

    Reserving an Owl webcam 

    If you want to reserve an OWL webcam, make sure to do this a week beforehand providing the following information: 

    • Date when you will need the OWL webcam; 
    • Contact information for the relevant lecturer;  
    • Whether this is a single instance request (for a try-out) or a series of events (per course).

    Reserving this equipment is done through the Servicedesk Facility Services via 020 525 1403 or servicedesk-fs@uva.nl

    After the lecture please return the equipment to the location referred to in the confirmation mail. 

Microphone 

Do you want to reserve a mobile microphone (catchbox)? Send an email to servicedesk-fs@uva.nl.

    If you want to return equipment outside these opening hours, you can leave it at the service point (red counter) of Building REC B/C/D, (B/C entrance).

    If you want to return equipment outside opening hours, you can leave it with the porter of the OMHP (Oudemanhuispoort 4-6).

    AV support from 17.00 from location Oudemanhuispoort.

    If you want to return equipment outside opening hours, you leave it with the porter of the PC Hoofthuis (Spuistraat 134). 

Support 

At each UvA location colleagues manage the audiovisual technology in lecture and tutorial rooms. Are you using audiovisual equipment for the first time? Please request support to start up at least 5 days in advance via the Servicedesk Facility Services (FS). Please contact them in case of problems or questions too in order to get onsite help.
