At the beginning of August the UvA made the transition from Streaming Media Service to the online video platform Kaltura. Kaltura is a sustainable state-of-the-art solution for uploading or making video or audio by teachers, support staff and students. All material that is still in use on the Streaming Media Service will be migrated to Kaltura in early January 2021. Within Kaltura you will have the possibility to co-own your video material with your colleagues. Follow the details about the exact course of the migration process and what this means for customizing the references to the Streaming Media Service material in, for example, Canvas.
Broadly speaking, the planning of the migration is as follows:
The migration phase starts with shutting down the upload option for the Streaming Media service. This is necessary because at the beginning of January all the material that is still in use will be migrated in its entirety to Kaltura. After the migration the material will be available in MyMedia in Kaltura and Canvas. The shutdown also means that as of January 4th no more changes can be made to the Streaming Media Service.
From mid-January to 3 May you have the possibility to modify links to material on the Streaming Media Service. As of 3 May, these links will no longer work, because then the Streaming Media Service will also be shut down for viewing. Do you have a large amount of links that need to be changed? Then you can count on support in modifying these links. We have an overview of all users concerned and we will contact them soon.
