  • When will I be issued a UvA-net ID and password?

New staff members (with the exception of ‘Incidental Services’ staff) will be issued a personal UvA-net ID and password by their own P&O department as part of the appointment procedure. In order to be issued a UvA-net ID, you must be registered in the UvA’s staff database (SAP/HR). If this is not the case, you may request - after having obtained permission from your manager - that your P&O department register you in the SAP/HR database.

  • I forgot my password. What should I do?

You can reset your password in the UvA Identity Management System. However, you can only do so if you have filled in your mobile phone number and answered a number of verification questions. If you have not done so, you may ask for a reset via the digital form.

  • My password no longer works. What should I do?

Check whether Caps Lock is on. The password is case sensitive. A password containing spaces or diacritical signs may also lead to login problems. If you have entered an incorrect password too many times, your account may have been blocked. The block will be automatically lifted after 15 minutes.

  • How can I check whether any passwords are stored in my web browser?

You can store passwords in web browsers in order to be able to log in to restricted sites automatically. The ‘Managing Passwords in Browsers’ manual describes how to manage passwords in the most popular browsers, as well as how to remove them.

  • Why am I no longer able to connect to network drives from my self-support computer after changing my password?

On both Windows self-support computers and their personal computers, employees sometimes use the same name-and-password combination for Windows and for their UvAnetID. However, the local Windows password will not change if you change your password on id.medewerker.uva.nl.

  • I have changed my password at my UvA workspace, but my account is blocked when I work on a different computer

If you work on several computers or mobile devices, the passwords you have stored must be changed on every device. For some users, passwords will not only be stored in the devices listed in the instructions, but also in routers, network storage or NAS. If that is the case for you, please contact the Service Desk.

  • I have changed my password, and now my VPN connection to UvA VPN no longer works. How do I solve this issue?

Normally, Pulse Secure/UvA VPN will ask you to enter your new password after you have changed your password. Pulse Secure will then remember this new password.

However, there have been cases in which users had to uninstall and re-install Pulse Secure.

How to uninstall Pulse Secure on a Windows computer

    • Click the ‘Windows start’ button at the bottom left of your screen
    • Click ‘Control Panel’
    • Click ‘Programs’
    • Click ‘Uninstall a program’
    • Select Pulse Secure
    • Click ‘Uninstall’

How to remove Pulse Secure from a Mac computer

    • Open the Finder
    • Open the ‘Applications’ folder
    • Select Pulse Secure
    • Remove Pulse Secure (you will have to enter your Mac password to do so)
    • Do not save a Pulse Secure configuration

    How to re-install Pulse Secure

Follow the instructions provided in ‘Installing a UvA VPN’.

  • My ‘Personal details’ are incorrect

Your personal details are copied from the UvA’s employee information database (SAP/HR). Contact your P&O department if they are incorrect. If your email address is missing or incorrect, please keep in mind that:

An email address ending in @uva.nl cannot be changed in SAP/HR by the P&O adviser. Contact ICT Services (ICTS) (servicedesk-icts@uva.nl).

  • Can I keep my UvA-net ID if I am no longer working at the UvA?

Employees can continue to use their UvA-net ID for a period of three months after leaving the UvA. After this period, your UvA-net ID will be deactivated unless you are still carrying out work on behalf of the UvA. If this is the case, please contact your P&O department. If your employment is terminated, you will no longer have access to Surfspot. Your UvA mailbox will be automatically emptied three months after the end of your employment. This also applies to your home and profile directories.

  • I can’t log in to SURFspot

Campus software intended for home use can only be ordered from SURFspot.nl by UvA staff with permanent appointments, scholarship students and professors by special appointment. You cannot use SURFspot if you have been seconded to the UvA by another institution or company or are affiliated with the UvA in any other way as this is not permitted under the terms of the SURFspot licence.
