Pursuant to UvA’s password regulations, all members of staff and students must change their UvAnetID passwords once per year.

All members of staff will receive automatically generated messages from UvA’s Identity Management System once per year to remind them it is time to change their passwords.

Tests have shown that many users are rather careless with their passwords and are likely to respond to phishing emails. This means that unauthorised persons may be able to learn their passwords and use them to gain unauthorised access.

By regularly changing their password, users reduce the risk of unauthorised access and are reminded of the importance of passwords. UvA seeks to implement additional methods to improve the security of its systems. In future, we will be increasingly be relying on multi-factor authentication methods.
