Some employees use a YubiKey as extra security for certain systems or as an alternative to two-step verification without a smartphone.

How the YubiKey works

The YubiKey is a USB stick that generates a password as soon as you press the button. You use it when the system you want to log in to asks for it. This is only necessary for additional security requirements. Only a small proportion of employees have to deal with this. You request the YubiKey from your ICT contact person [link], there is a charge for this.

Activate YubiKey

With an activation code, you can have the YubiKey activated. Follow the steps.

Step1. Register your YubiKey

  • Go to SURFconext registration portal, click the 'Add Token' button and choose YubiKey
  • You will receive a confirmation email with a link to an activation code
  • Go to a service desk with the activation code to have your YubiKey activated. See step 2.

Step 2. Activate your YubiKey at a service desk

Take your YubiKey, the confirmation email and a valid ID to one of these service desks:

  • P.C. Hoofthuis Library Desk
  • Library Learning Centre Roeterseiland (REC-H) Desk
  • Science Park Library Desk
  • University Library Singel Desk
  • WPO (Workplace Support) Hogehilweg

Opening hours and addresses can be found on the contact page of the library. WPO Hogehilweg is open every working day from 09:00 to 16:30.

YubiKey lost?

Have you lost your YubiKey? If so, please go to the SURFconext registration portal and click 'Delete' next to the relevant YubiKey. To request and activate a new YubiKey, follow the steps on this page.
