The UvA English Style Guide presents the main conventions adopted by the University of Amsterdam (UvA) with respect to written English. The Style Guide is meant as an aid to editors and other staff members at the UvA who regularly write or edit documents in English, as well as to external translators and translation agencies.
British English
The most important convention to note is that, as a European institution, the
UvA uses British English. This has consequences for the spelling and
choice of words, but also for punctuation, forms of address and so on.
